Why ParentChild+ Was Selected

  • ParentChild+ meets families and providers where early learning already happens: in the home. Their Home-Based Child Care model brings trained early learning specialists into home-based childcare settings, helping providers strengthen the daily learning environment for the children in their care.

  • ParentChild+ uses an evidence-based model that includes coaching, books, educational materials, and relationship-based support for providers and families. ParentChild+ reports improvements in children’s language, engagement, early literacy, executive function, and social-emotional skills through this model.

  • ParentChild+ has a long-standing track record in early childhood education and family support. Their model is structured, replicable, and grounded in measurable outcomes, making them a strong fit for Council 1869’s commitment to funding high-performing organizations that create lasting impact.

Where The Money Goes

Council 1869 funds the expansion of ParentChild+’s Home-Based Child Care model on Long Island. The program brings trained specialists into home-based child care settings to:

  • Infuse high-quality early childhood education into home-based care

  • Empower providers to see themselves as educators

  • Equip children with the literacy and social skills needed for school readiness

Why It Matters

Children who enter school ready to learn are far more likely to succeed long-term. Yet home-based childcare–often the only option for underserved families–remains one of the most neglected parts of our education system.

Our investment helps give these children the foundation to start school prepared, confident, and ready to thrive at the same rate as their peers.

Our Commitment

In late 2023, during our inaugural year, Council 1869 made a landmark $1M grant commitment to ParentChild+, helping expand services across Long Island’s most underserved communities.
